This page is to be for hobbies. I am not sure I have hobbies; I just have things I do that are more fun. If the ‘hobby’ ceases to be fun it is not a hobby, it is just plain unadulterated work!
The activity that has captured my attention for many years has been the counted cross-stitch I do. I started stitching in 1984. My sister, Peggy made a key chain with my name and flowers. I thought the design was so precise and neat. I had to try cross-stitching.
I think the best compliment about my stitching was from Cousin Vern and Cousin Nikki. During the family gathering, they asked where the cross-stitching was they had been hearing about. When I directed them to the pictures on the living room walls, they commented they thought the stitching was photographs.
I enjoy taking photographs. I have certainly enjoyed taking the pictures of the geese and pheasants this spring. I also enjoy landscape photography. Years ago, I had a dark room for enlarging my photos. However, this ‘hobby’ did not last long. I lost interest until recently when I purchased my digital camera.
In surfing the Net for a Christmas present for a moose lover, I found a moose yard shadow. I have had raving compliments on the moose. I know the moose does not make me an expert. I am still going to try my hand at woodworking. My next project is a cupboard. With the help of the internet woodworking sites along with friends, I think I can do the cupboard. If the cupboard does not work out my woodworking ‘hobby’, may fall by the wayside as well.
I have always enjoyed flowers and the lawn. This year it is a real chore just to go out to mow. I do not know how lack of interest is going to work with this ‘hobby’. I might wake up some morning to find the neighbors have given me goats!
I have had several tasks to do by myself. I am quite proud of myself being able to do them all. I think the hardest was replacing the storm door on the back porch. I could not lift the door. I had to figure out how to prop it up so I could attach it to the door frame. Replacing the linoleum was fun and a chore. It was so rewarding when it was finished making the effort worthwhile.
Taking care of my two acres this past year has been both challenging and rewarding. However, I do have my days when I watch the sprinkler go round all day. I have other days when I feel I have worked hard only to be put away wet. I wouldn’t trade living in the country for a life in the city for anything.
I think that is the extent of my hobbies and opinions of the word ‘hobby’!!
